So you live in Dubai, and you are getting married. Or your child is. The first question is never "which venue." It is usually "wait, can we even legally marry here?" Let's answer the real questions first. Venues come later. They are the fun part anyway.

Why So Many Indian Families in Dubai Are Choosing to Marry Right Here

Over 3 million Indians currently live in the UAE. That is not a small diaspora tucked away in a corner. It is a full parallel Indian city, running on Indian food, Indian tailors, and increasingly, Indian weddings.

Three things make Dubai different from a regular destination wedding city.

  • Direct flights connect every major Indian city to Dubai in three to four hours.

  • The weather between October and March is genuinely perfect for outdoor ceremonies, cool evenings, and clear skies.

  • And the city has spent two decades building 5-star hospitality infrastructure.

If Dubai feels beyond your budget, Sharjah is a great alternative for a beachfront wedding. It offers a similar coastal experience at a lower cost. Just remember to check if your chosen hotel serves alcohol, as many properties in Sharjah are dry hotels.

Across the board: book your venue 9 to 12 months ahead for the November–March window. That season fills fast, and last-minute Indian wedding bookings in Dubai are increasingly hard to place in prime slots.

What a Dubai Wedding Actually Costs

  • Small wedding (around 50 guests): AED 120,000–200,000

  • Medium wedding (100–150 guests): AED 200,000–400,000

  • Large/luxury wedding (200–300+ guests): AED 400,000–900,000+, climbing well past AED 1 million for full-scale, multi-function Indian celebrations with 150–200 guests staying on property

Madinat Jumeirah (Al Qasr)

Mid-range hotels charge around AED 350 per person for food and beverages and luxury hotels charge between AED 500 and AED 1,500+ per person. Rather than charging per person, most of the hotels follow a minimum stay model.

Typical pricing for photography and videography is between AED 40,000 and 120,000. The hotel bill also may contain a 10% service charge, 5% VAT and further corkage fees / outside fees.

How This Compares To India

The current cost of a mid-range wedding in India for 200-300 people is approximately Rs 20 to Rs. 40 Lakh (about AED 90,000–180,000). The wedding venues in Dubai rates are 20-30% higher than Indian wedding venue rates for similar weddings. The extra expense is primarily related to the minimum spend amount for hotel stays in foreign countries.

Can Your Guests From India Actually Get There?

This is the part that quietly derails a lot of Dubai weddings. Families assume relatives can just book a flight and land. It is not that simple, and the rules changed recently.

Indian passport holders need a visa to enter the UAE, as India is not on the country's visa-free list. There is one exception. Indian nationals with a valid US visa, US Green Card, or EU residence permit can get a 14-day visa on arrival, which can be extended for another 14 days.

For everyone else, a 30-day or 60-day tourist visa can be arranged through airlines, travel agencies, or online portals. Processing usually takes 3 to 4 working days, with express options available in about 48 hours.

Make sure every guest has:

  • Passport valid for at least six months

  • Valid UAE tourist visa

  • Travel and health insurance, which is now mandatory

For large Indian weddings, managing visas for hundreds of guests can take time. Starting the process early helps avoid last-minute delays.

Where Dream Wedding Hub Fits Into Your Dubai Wedding

Palazzo Versace Dubai

If you are planning to marry in Dubai, here is where the actual planning load sits, beyond picking a pretty ballroom:

  • Choosing the venue and booking it according to the budget, the number of guests and the functions of your wedding.

  • Visa guidance, hotel accommodations and transfers to and from the airport.

  • Coordinating with the vendors for catering, decor, entertainment and other wedding requirements.

  • Advice on legal documents to assist you in selecting the best way to register your marriage.

  • Wedding planner for end to end for hassle-free preparations before and during your big day.

The Legal Reality of Marrying in Dubai as an Indian

Getting the ceremony beautiful and the marriage legally invalid is a real risk if nobody checks the paperwork early.

If Both Partners Are Non-Muslim Indians

The Indian Consulate in Dubai can solemnize or register your marriage under the Foreign Marriage Act, 1969. However, it can only be done if at least one of you holds a UAE residence visa. Muslim marriages are not handled at the Consulate at all; those go through Sharia court instead.

The consulate route has a real timeline attached to it. After you submit your form, you need to publish a newspaper notice in an English UAE newspaper and a regional Indian newspaper. The marriage date gets fixed at least 30 days after that notice runs. The registration fee is AED 198. Budget the 30-day gap into your planning calendar from day one, because it catches people off guard every single wedding season.

There is a faster alternative most Indian couples in Dubai don't know about. Since the UAE's Federal Decree-Law No. 41 of 2022, non-Muslim couples, including tourists, can legally marry in Abu Dhabi under civil law. Tourists are accepted, not just residents, and the express track can process an application in a single working day.

If Either of You Is Muslim

Muslim Indian couples register at a UAE Sharia court, not the Consulate. Standard processing starts at around AED 300, while one-day express processing costs about AED 2,500. If a wali (guardian) power of attorney is needed, get the attestation chain moving from India at least a month out. That single document is the most common reason weddings get delayed.

The One Rule That Applies to Everyone

Any document issued outside the UAE needs a full attestation chain: state Home Department, MEA apostille in India, and then UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation. Skip a link in that chain and your marriage certificate will not be recognised for residency sponsorship or any official UAE process later. This is not a place to save time.

Smarter Option: Get Married in India, Celebrate in Dubai

Wed in India

Here's the option most couples don't consider until someone points it out: you don't have to choose between "wedding in Dubai" and "wedding in India." You can split the two.

Host the main wedding ceremony in India, where venue, catering, and guest costs are considerably less. Then have a smaller Dubai reception or celebration for close friends and family.

This approach works because guest count is the biggest factor in wedding costs. Instead of flying hundreds of guests to Dubai, you can host your large celebration in India and keep your Dubai event intimate with around 50 to 80 guests.

With Dream Wedding Hub, you can plan both celebrations as one seamless event. You can have everything from a wedding in India to your Dubai reception all wrapped up. This makes the budgeting, planning and coordination process much easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far ahead should we book a Dubai venue?

9 to 12 months for the October–March peak season. Popular venues for 200+ guest Indian weddings book out even earlier.

Do all our Indian guests need visas?

Yes, unless they hold qualifying US or EU residence documents for visa-on-arrival. UK residence status no longer qualifies on its own as of 2026. Standard tourist visas take 3-4 working days.

Is it cheaper to marry in India and celebrate in Dubai, or the reverse?

Generally, marrying and hosting the main event in India, then holding a smaller Dubai celebration, costs less overall than flying your full guest list to Dubai.
