Wedding Photographers in India
Wedding photography in India has changed a lot over the last ten years. It used to be a photographer with a flash, some posed family shots and a printed album delivered three months later. That is not what most couples are looking for anymore. Today people want the real stuff. The moment the bride's mother tears up during the vidaai. The groom's friends pulling him onto the dance floor at the sangeet. The quiet five minutes before the pheras when it is just the two of them. That is what good wedding photography actually looks like now.
If there is one vendor you should not cut corners on, it is the photographer. The flowers are gone the next day. The food is eaten. The photographer's work is what you are still looking at twenty years later.
Types of Wedding Photography
Candid photography
This is what most couples ask for these days. The photographer is essentially invisible during the wedding. No "okay everyone look here," no stiff poses, just someone moving through the event and catching things as they actually happen. Tears, laughter, nervous glances, the chaos of getting ready in the morning. The best candid photographers know when to stay back and when to get close. It takes a certain kind of eye and not everyone has it, so look carefully at the portfolio before you book.
Traditional photography
Still relevant, still needed. This covers the formal portraits, the bride and groom together, individual shots, family groups, key ritual moments captured properly. Most couples find that candid alone does not cover everything they want, so a lot of bookings now combine both. One photographer handles the formal portraits while the other moves through the event documenting everything else. If you are also sorting out bridal makeup and styling, coordinate the timing with your photographer so the getting-ready shots are covered properly.
Cinematic videography
A wedding film is a different thing from a wedding video. A proper cinematic team shoots the day like a short film, with multiple cameras, audio recorded properly and editing done to actually tell the story of the day rather than just showing everything in sequence. The highlight reel is what most couples share but the full edit is something you come back to again and again. Many photographers now offer combined photo and video packages which usually works out cheaper than booking two separate teams.
Pre wedding shoot
A session before the wedding day, usually at a location that means something to the couple or somewhere genuinely beautiful. It is also useful as a dry run because most people are not used to being in front of a camera and the actual wedding day is not the time to figure that out. Popular locations across India include the palaces and lakes around Jaipur and Udaipur, the ghats in Varanasi, beaches in goa, heritage sites in Delhi and the landscapes around Rishikesh and Jammu and Kashmir. If you are planning a destination shoot, build in extra time for travel and weather.
What Does Wedding Photography Cost in India
Prices vary quite a bit depending on the photographer's experience, your city and how much coverage you need.
A basic pre wedding shoot with a local photographer starts from around Rs. 8,000 and can go up to Rs. 25,000. Single day coverage for photos only generally falls between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 1,00,000. If you are covering mehendi, sangeet and the wedding across two days, expect Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 2,50,000 depending on who you book. A full package with candid, traditional, video and an album can go from Rs. 1,50,000 up to Rs. 5,00,000 for experienced photographers with strong portfolios. Destination pre wedding shoots start from around Rs. 60,000 and go up from there based on location and travel.
These are rough ranges. If you are working within a fixed budget, a wedding planner can help negotiate packages and bundle vendor costs together.
